WHERE IT WAS NOT IT NOW IS.

Wed like to start off this months column with an excerpt from a report explaining in simplified terms the operation of a new model plane guidance system.
This excerpt was sent in to us by Bill Hintz of Glendora California.
The model knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it is not.
By subtracting where it is from where it is not or where it is not from where it is (whichever is greater) it obtains a difference or deviation.
This new guidance system uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the model from a position where it is to a position where it is not arriving at the position where it was not it now is.
Consequently the position where it is is now the position where it was not and it follows the position where it was is the position where it is not.
In the event that the position where it now it is not the position where it was not the system has acquired a variation (variations are caused by external factors and the discussion of these factors is not considered to be within the scope of this report) the variations being the difference between where the model is and where the model was not.
If variations are considered to be a significant factor they may be corrected for by the use of the Mark II system the model must know where it was also.
The thought process of the model is as follows Because of a variation some of the information that the model has obtained is modified it is not sure where it is.
However it is sure where it is not (within reason) and it knows where it was.
It now subtracts where it should be from where it was not (or vice versa) and by differentiating this from the algebraic difference between where it shouldnt be and where it was it is able to obtain the difference between its deviation and its variation which is called error.
Simple isnt it And all this time Ed Thompson has been trying to con us into believing that it all had to do with those little wiggly lines he puts on paper Some guys will do just about anything to make a dishonest buck
