EDITORIAL by Don Dewey.

In the July issue of American Modeler within the section devoted to AMA business more specifically called Model Aviation Official magazine of the Academy of Model Aeronautics there appeared a call for nominations for the office of President of AMA and several district vice-presidents.
The article stated that the proper procedure was for any AMA member to submit his nomination for one of these offices to his area vice-president and to send a copy to the headquarters of AMA in Washington.
The person nominated it was stated should be a leader member of AMA. Nothing was stated that would indicate if such a nomination were submitted it might be discarded or otherwise not considered.
One not familiar with the bylaws might suppose that if such nomination were submitted in the proper manner that subsequently his candidate being a leader member in good standing would find his name on the ballot.
Such supposition would be a grave error however because it seems the bylaws of the AMA give almost unlimited powers to the Executive Council of the AMA to pick and choose whom they wish with little or no regard to nominations submitted by members across the country.
If one of the Executive Council chooses to run for office again one of the other council members simply nominates him and another council member seconds it.
The nominated council member may then turn around and nominate the man who nominated him for area vice-president president or Secretary-Treasurer i.e. you scratch my back and Ill scratch yours.
This is almost exactly what happened at the nominating committee meeting at the recent NATS held in Olathe Kansas.
